Classification of bones

Bones in the human body can be classified in several ways based on different criteria. One common classification is based on their shape, while another classification is based on their location within the body. Here are the primary classifications of bones:

a. Classification by Location:

  • Axial Skeleton Bones: These are the bones located along the central axis of the body. They include the skull, vertebral column (spine), ribcage, and hyoid bone.

  • Appendicular Skeleton Bones: These are the bones of the limbs and their associated girdles (shoulder and pelvic girdles). They include the arms, legs, hands, feet, and the bones that connect them to the axial skeleton.
