Ukraine's security service says a woman has been arrested on charges of plotting to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to the security service, this assassination plot was prepared by Russia.

The security service said that the woman had tried to find out the details of President Zelenskiy's trip before his visit to the flood-affected area of Mykolaiv in June.

Ukraine has regularly accused locals who support Russia and allegedly provide information to help Moscow's military.

President Zelenskiy confirmed that he had been informed of the woman's arrest. He said that the head of Ukraine's security service 'S-B-U' had given him an update on the 'fight against traitors'.

Russia has not yet commented on the arrest.

Ukraine's security service "S-B-U" has said in a statement that the woman was arrested "red-handed" when she was trying to pass classified information to the Russians.

He alleged that before the visit, the woman had tried to gather intelligence to find out about President Zelenskiy's plans in the southern {Mikuliu} region.

The security service has also released a photo of its personnel and the woman, in which their faces have been obscured.

Recall that President Zelenskiy visited {Mikuliu} in June to assess the damage caused by the Kakhovka Dam, and then visited the area again in July after heavy Russian shelling.

The security service said it was informed about the plot before the visit, so extra security measures were put in place.

The S-B-U alleged that Russia was planning a 'massive air strike on the {Mikuliu} region' and that a female suspect was trying to provide them with information about the locations of electronic warfare systems and ammunition depots. The Russian army could target.

According to the S-B-U, the suspect lived in a small town called {Ochakiu}, which President Zelensky visited in July, and worked in a shop on a military base there.

It is understood that the S-B-U did not arrest the female suspect during the visit, but instead took security measures to prevent an attack on the Ukrainian president.

The S-B-U added that agents followed him after the visit to find out more about the work he had been 'given' by the Russians.

The statement alleges that the female suspect visited the area in a car and had also taken photos and videos of Ukrainian military installations.

They are likely to face charges of illegal transmission of information about weapons and troop movements.

If found guilty, the woman can be jailed for up to 12 years.

Ukrainian security forces have reportedly arrested several "Russian agents" they believe were helping Russia identify targets for airstrikes.
